I found something out last night.

If you meticulously trace a word with a heat-transfer pencil onto tracing paper, and then try to iron it onto your material of choice...

the letters will be reversed.

I finally figured out, on my own no less, that if I flip the piece of tracing paper over, I can indeed trace the reversed letters with said heat-transfer pencil, thereby restoring order to the Embroiderverse.

Since I can't find exactly the right thing to embroider the gift onto, I'm doing something for myself. I've blatantly lifted some pics of the Cheshire Cat from Disney's animated Alice in Wonderland and am embroidering it onto a shirt.

I'm putting the words 'Can You Stand on Your Head?' on the shirt pocket along w/the cat's grin, and this on the bottom front of the shirt:

It's kind of funny, but Rob has always equated me with the animated Cheshire Cat, I'm not sure why. I'm flattered, but I don't see the resemblance.

I've always loved the Mad Hatter myself - the new Alice in Wonderland with Johnny Depp as the Hatter didn't really do it for me. I think he's been Cap'n Jack Sparrow too long - it bled into the Mad Hatter. I dunno, I didn't love the new AiW. Interesting concept, but I think someone else, maybe Benecio Del Toro, could have done it better. Disney's character building hasn't been very good lately - I miss the old bad bad guys - like Malificent. She was a true villain, along with the original Cruella de Ville, not these watered down wanna-be bad guys like the new Red Queen or the guy in The Princess & the Frog - he's so not bad I can't even remember his freaking name & I just watched the movie!

I got a Netflix subscription & so far it's working out fantastically. Love Torchwood, love it, love it, love it. Rob's motored his way through four seasons of Doctor Who, the Sarah Connor Chronicles & The Dresden Files. Now we're looking for new stuff to watch when we're done w/Torchwood.

For those of you who watch Dexter religiously... does it have graphic scenes of animal abuse or killing? I ask this because of Rob. Seeing animals being hurt or abused in t.v. & movies freaks him out. Watching The Men Who Stare at Goats was touchy - fortunately the goat just tipped over & that was that (other than that scene, it was a great movie). I'd hate to get into Dexter only to have him flashback to being a kid & doing horrible shit to a bunny or something & Rob having a panic attack over it.

Anyway, if you know let me know... it's a serial killer 'thing' which is why I ask...

This meme, while full of some fond memories, has left off an entire category of splendid animation. Where, I ask, are the Chuck Jones creations?

Here, in case you haven't seen any:

The White Seal
Mowgli's Brothers
A Cricket in Times Square
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
The Phantom Tollbooth
Gay Purr-ee

A couple others that have been skipped over -

Puff the Magic Dragon, The Flight of Dragons, Ralph Bakshi's Wizards & by the makers of Watership Down, another of Richard Adams' books, The Plague Dogs. Ooh, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, from 1979 or thereabouts.

It's a toss-up between Sixteen Candles & Ferris Beuller's Day Off. I can watch those two over & over & over again. I think Sixteen Candles might actually have the edge on Ferris, though. There were so many iconic moments in both films... but I <3 Long Duk Dong.

Rented Watchmen this weekend. I fell asleep listening to it last night. Rob's finishing it up this morning - he had to pause it for Bleach & then he went to bed.

It looked like it would be sooo good. Instead, it's like, 3 hours of narration & nihilistic diatribes in deadpan monotone voices.

If I wanted to listen to 3 hours of nihilistic diatribe, I'd talk to myself. At least I can add some inflection.

Just saw the trailer for Coraline... it made me think - if Tim Burton did Clive Barker's The Thief of Always - that would be freakin' awesome!

If anyone knows Tim Burton, put the bug in his ear!

... heh heh, maggots...

My daily less-unhappy - when I walked out of work tonight, it was bitterly cold, but raining & had stopped snowing.

Chelsie does not appreciate the 'As Seen On TV Pedi-Paws'. I'm not too sure of its effectiveness & it looks like a cross between a flashlight & a vibrator. It sounds & feels like a vibrator, which means that it could have possibilities as a pervertable. It's pretty funny watching her try to bite at it - kind of like all the blonde jokes about vibrators & chipped teeth.

Watched The Dark Knight tonight. It was ok. I had higher expectations for it honestly. I guess Jack Nicholson & Mark Hamill just set the bar too high for me.

Just in case anyone wanted to visit the Felstone Dragonflight & see how my garden grows...

The Mighty Scroll of Perzephone

My two split eggs finally gave up a gender - I got my girlie & named her 'Sashimi Sushi' & I froze the male & named him Pete n' Repeat :P I'm still working on that evil black alt & I got my long-sought-after golden egg. And... my descriptions for Celestine & Hanna-Lee got published to their pages. Squee!

We were productive today - Chelsie got her rabies shot (finally!). She hates the tag & wants it to die. It's hilarious watching her try to catch it so she can chew it off. She also got her parvo/distemper/bordatella booster. She's been losing teeth & her adult ones are growing in. Unlike human teeth where the adult tooth pushes up from under the baby tooth, puppies only have about 28 teeth, & get about 42 mature teeth. Chelsie's got 8 fangs at the moment because her adult teeth are side-by-side w/her puppy teeth. It's kind of creepy, like she's a mutant shark dog. We were wrestling earlier & I wedged my hand toward the back of her mouth to discourage her from biting my fingers off & ended up w/one of her baby molars wedged in my hand. All the blood shed was mine, though.

We watched Wall-E tonight. It was cute, but not one of Pixar's best. Rented Hellboy II: The Golden Army earlier this week. The first one was better. I need movies w/more plot.

Harvey Korman passed today. We really need more funny people like that man in the world.

"It's Mo-nay! Count de Mo-nay!"
"Dont get saucy with me, Bernaise!"

Yes, I am a million years old - I saw History of the World Part I in the drive-in movie theater with my parents when it came out. A lot of it did go over my head, but I know I exasperated my mother & father for months - whenever they'd start asking me a bunch of questions, I would look at them & reply, "What is this, the Spanish Inquisition?"

It's fox medicine at its best. Leaving things unsaid. It's funny how the freewillastrology & dailyom sometimes mirror my life. For some people, horroscopes are generalities, for me they actually work. It might just be a symptom of schizophrenia - magical thinking & all that.

But this is really where I'm at today:

Remembering To Pause
Beyond Reacting

We have all had the experience of reacting in a way that was less than ideal upon hearing bad news, or being unfairly criticized, or being told something we did not want to hear. This makes sense because when our emotions are triggered, they tend to take center stage, inhibiting our ability to pause before we speak. We may feel compelled to release the tension by expressing ourselves in some way, whether it’s yelling back at the person yelling at us, or rushing to deliver words of comfort to a friend in trouble. However, there is much to be said for teaching ourselves to remember to pause and take a deep breath before we respond to the shocks and insults that can come our way in life.

For one thing, our initial response is not always what’s best for us, or for the other people involved. Reacting to childish rage with childish rage will only escalate the negativity in a situation, further ensnaring us in an undesirable dynamic. Similarly, when we react defensively, or simply thoughtlessly, we often end up feeling regret over our words or actions. In the end, we save ourselves a lot of pain when we take a deep breath and really tune in to ourselves, and the other person, before we respond. This doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t say anything, although in some cases, that may be the best option.

Some situations require a fairly immediate response, but even just a moment of grounding ourselves before we do so can help enormously. The next time you find yourself wanting to react, try to pause, and in that pause, take a deep breath. Feel your feet on the floor, the air on your skin, and listen for a response to arise within you, rather than just going with the first thing that pops into your head. You may find that in that moment, there is the potential to move beyond reaction and into the more subtle and creative realm of response, where something new can happen.

I have to go get that toof pulled today. I'm worried & anxious because I've never been awake for the experience. It's something new and immensely frightening to me. The last toof they pulled broke into a bunch of pieces, when I got that wisdom toof pulled I had fingerprint bruises along my jawline. Both of those teeth took portions of my jawbone with them. I'm hoping not so much pressure will be needed since, even though it's a molar, this one is closer to the front of my mouth. I'm going to pop a couple of codeine pills before I head out the door. What may very well end up happening is that they'll take x-rays & refer me to an oral surgeon, which will annoy and relieve me at the same time.

Watched The Golden Compass last night. They did a fair adaptation to screen from the book, but the acting was hideous. It's pretty sad when a CGI bear has more passion than a character based on a gypsy. Seeing Sam Elliott was a nice little surprise, kind of like an Easter egg.

This weekend I also need to take my Net+ final and finish up my Excel class project. Which I haven't even started on, but I am the Queen of Excel Spreadsheets (an indication of this is me trying to spell 'Excel' as 'Excal') so not even starting is okay. Even if I totally bomb the Net+ final, I'll still get a C.

Rob says Sweeney Todd is the best bloody musical he's seen yet. :D

I have to agree. I fucking loved it. I don't think I've totally, thoroughly and completely enjoyed a movie as much as that in a loooong time. It was like Edward Scissorhands grew up and went insane. I've always enjoyed the story of Sweeney Todd - saw it at a community theater when I was 8, then the version w/Angela Lansbury as Ms. Lovett. And then I found out it was based on a possibly-true story - how delicious!!! Helena Bonham Carter is perfect as a slightly deranged pie-shop proprietess and of course, there's Depp.

I am so going to own this movie when I get paid on Friday. Squee indeed! I'm also going to have to see if I can get the one w/Lansbury in it.

These are classic lines I found on IMDB:

Everything I Need to Know I Learned from Sweeney Todd

1. Human flesh smells terrible but tastes great.

2. If there's woman following you around, claiming to know you, stop and take a good look at her. She probably does.

3. If you're eating a pie and suddenly find a hair, stop eating. This goes double if you find a fingernail.

4. When your boyfriend vows he'll kill a dozen jailers to set you free, this most likely means he will freeze when confronted with one. He may even drop the gun in your lap and make you do it. (from the original, not this one)

5. No matter how much you love a guy, it's not a good idea to let him believe his wife is dead when she really isn't. Especially if she lives in the area. He probably won't forgive you. He'll probably throw you alive into an oven.

6. How many varieties of yellow hair there are.

7. We place A LOT of trust in our barbers. A lot.

8. Giving symbolic birds as gifts can be a real turn-on.

9. One should always be suspicious of the overnight success of a pie-shop.

10. When you need something to fill up the end of a first act, go for cannibalism dripping with puns. (Gods, I love a good musical - especially if it's about zombies or cannibals!)

11. "To seek revenge may lead to hell, but everyone does it and seldom as well."

12. The buddy system is always a good idea...especially when you're going to get a shave

13. Occasionally listen to the bizarre ramblings about local eateries made by the demented, homeless women that live on your street. They may be on to something.

14. The ideal retirement spot for most mass murderers is by the sea.

15. Nothing rhymes with locksmith.

Rented I Am Legend tonight. It was okay, and that's about all I can say. It was not a substantial movie - I honestly wanted more meat, more movie-protein goodness. I was so enthralled by the first preview I saw for it and what it delivered was a combination of The Stand, Resident Evil and 28 Days. And sadly, a smidge of Ol' Yeller, too. I dun want to be a spoiler beyond what I've just said. I was just plain disappointed. Adultswim had a commercial for the ATHF movie a few minutes ago & the announcer asked, "When was the last time you would jump through your own ass to see a movie?" I thought for a moment & realized that was how I felt when I saw the trailer for the Transformers movie. I would have jumped through my own ass to see that movie. I think I would probably jump through my own ass to see 10,000 B.C., too.

Speaking of my ass, my butt cheek has been itching all freaking day. I don't know why - there is no logical reason for my ass-itch. I finally took some of my own advice and slathered my ass in sweet almond oil. It worked - for awhile. It's starting to itch again. But my ass smells like almonds.

We got some blackberries from Vons. I was not expecting much from Mexican blackberries, honestly. They had no smell. Grocery stores make a big mistake when they refrigerate fruit - fruit smells like nothing when it's cold. I am picky when I buy berries - I open the little plastic cartons and turn the berries over and check for mold and sniff them. I once had a produce person stand over my shoulder for a good 15 minutes while I was shopping for strawberries. He finally asked me, not what was I doing, or why was I doing it, but if I washed my hands before I went shopping. But anyway, the blackberries are absolutely the bomb. They taste sooooo good. There is probably something horribly wrong with the blackberries because blackberries from Mexico in March should not taste like blackberries from the vine in September from Washington. They do lack a scent of any kind, which bothers me.

Anymore I hate the wind. I used to like to go run the dogs in it. Used to just like to go running in the wind. It didn't matter if it was the hot August winds or the bitterly cold winter winds - I just wanted to be out in it. Now I want to hide from it. I don't like it, it makes me nervous and anxious. I always feel like something out there is looking for me. I don't want it to find me, but there's no sufficient hiding place. It comes down the chimney and under the doors.

Because it's boring, just me keeping tabs on symptoms )

Tonight I saw Howl's Moving Castle all the way through for the first time. It was beautiful. We rented Hitman last night - I give it two 'meh's. It was a two-meh movie. Billy Zane would've made a way better hitman.

Two more days of work at the Excalibur and I'm free. My indentured servitude to the hospitality industry is finally coming to an end. I am completely terrified.

I just saw the full trailer for Strange Wilderness. It looks fucking funny. I have been watching these nature programs my entire life, and it looks like they've done some decent spoofing.

However, the shark they show at the end of the trailer is possibly the best argument against intelligent design I've ever seen.

I gotta agree with the narrator... "Wtf?!" It makes me laugh continually. And snicker afterwards.

I think all the cold remedies I took this morning all started working finally. Like, around 7pm. If I wasn't so sick I could be having a really good time right now. My feet are numb, my fingers are all tingly, I can't feel the chair under my butt.

Watched Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End last night. It was okay. Nice dark little love story. It was kind of weird seeing Chow Yun Fat in a slightly bad-guy role. Chthulu the Chthouch Potato kinda freaked out when he saw what had become of the Kraken. I didn't know what it was I was looking at til it was too late & I didn't have a chance to cover his eyes. I was honestly hoping for more... especially after they told the story of Calypso & Davy Jones. I was hoping for some serious eye candy there & all I got was crabs & little kids. Blegh. I did like the pirate song at the beginning of the movie. Very hair-raising & creepy. I like Captain Barbossa far more than Jack Sparrow, pretty much through all three movies - I was excited at the end of the last movie when I saw Tia Dolma had brought Barbossa back from the dead.

I've seen a green flash at sunrise before. It's easier to do here than many other places. Er, it used to be easier, before we had so much smog. Anywhere you can get higher than the horizon & the horizon is relatively flat & there is not a lot of particulate matter or moisture in the air between you & the point of sunrise/set is a ripe area for seeing green flashes. Never saw one out at the beaches in California, but probably more because I wasn't looking at the sunsets.

Sometimes I wish I wasn't so freakin' practical. Sat down, did the math & dropped the drumming class because honestly, gas is too expensive & it's going to go up in price again all through spring.

What Was In the Box:

A 5lb dumbbell, some heavy black cardboard, and a dictinonary! I knew there was a large bookish feeling thing in the box, and there was. There was also about a half a roll of paper towels used as padding, some bubble wrap, and...

Pan's Labyrinth!!!

Footnote added @ 1am: I think it's raining again out there - it rained earlier when we were coming home from the grocery store. While loading the groceries into the car, the rain was freezing to my face. Brrrr!!!
Thank you, Great Mystery, for the rain.

Damn, I'm more introverted than the Coyote daemon :P I really want to see this movie - didn't even know there was a book, hah! The minute I saw the polar bear warrior in the trailer, I was hooked.

Your Score: Independent Soul.

You scored -11 Extroversion, -7 Sensitivity, and -1 Openness!

You are calm and logical, but not unemotional. You are an introvert, at heart, preferring to read alone than be subjected to the crush and noise of a big party or bar. You have a few friends and family, whose presence you welcome - to a point. Even they can wear on your nerves eventually, and you need to retreat back into your personal space for a while so you can recharge. Your energy comes in bursts, after which you need a long nap or a couple of evenings at home to recuperate.

You are comfortable with yourself, and reasonably confident. You want the friendship and goodwill of others, but you are not willing to sacrifice your principles in order to get it. If your close friends need something that you can provide, however, you will be the first to offer it.

You are a good and sympathetic listener, and are aware of your friend's emotional states. With your very close friends, you will open up, but rarely - you don't like to burden people with your problems. At the same time, though, you are honest and are not willing to alter the truth for the sake of convenience. Among strangers you are reserved, and may resort to making jokes to disguise your true feelings.

While you are not afraid of conflict, you do not seek it, either. When you are hurt or insulted, you feel that you have a choice to make. You can choose to take the up on it and defend yourself, or you can let it pass. Your decision may depend on how well you know the person, how personally you take the insult, or simply what mood you are in that day. Your friends may not always know how you are going to react, for that reason. Whatever you reaction, though, you will be logical, rational and unnervingly accurate: a measured strike.

Your daemon's form would represent your calm, introverted nature, your cool logic, and your impatience with crowds of people. He or she would probably whisper ironic comments in your ear, give logical advice and try to hide his or her soft side from everyone, even you.

Suggested forms: Peregrine Falcon, Snowy Owl, Snow Leopard, Siberian Tiger.
