We might actually have what is known as A Good Dog™. Tonight, against my better judgment, Rob talked me into leaving Chelsie Alone Inside the House when we went grocery shopping.

The last time we left a dog Alone Inside the House, it was when we lived in the condo & had a lab mix named Ripley. Ripley was not A Good Dog™. Ripley was Someone Else's Problem™ that we inadvertently adopted. Ripley had separation anxiety so bad that anytime we left the house for even 5 minutes, she would shit all over it. Literally all over the house - and not just neat brown piles of dog turds... no, this was reeking acidic specially-formulated diarrhea. She ate a pair of sneakers I had - after managing to climb to the shelf to do so. She ate books and the linoleum off my bathroom floor. She terrorized Bob & Eleggua by knocking them over & dragging them around the poop-smeared floor. She probably would have eaten Ed & Nessie if she could have opened their tank.

The whole reason for leaving the dog Alone Inside the House is because our neighbors gave their son a BB gun. The other afternoon, Rob was greeted by the sight of the kid & his friend climbing guerrila-style along the back wall holding BB guns. Rob almost shot them, but he recognized the kid from next door. He went over & talked to their dad (who was shooting cans in their back yard) about them climbing our back wall & that hasn't happened since, but the kids were running around out in front of the houses today w/the guns & well... I can't blame him for not wanting to leave Chelsie in the back yard. It may be just an air rifle, but a dog can lose an eye just as easy as a kid.

I had considerable trepidations about leaving Chelsie inside. When we locked her in my bathroom the last time, she methodically shredded her puppy pads & shit all over the bathroom & smeared it all over herself in the process, which meant that I had to wrestle a shit-covered puppy into the tub & give her a bath before I could let her out of the bathroom so I could clean it. But we've been leaving her alone in the living room at bedtime so Rob & I can snuggle before he goes to his own bed & she hangs out when we're in the bathrooms... so I blocked off my room & Rob's room, we barricaded the lower bookshelves with chairs, made sure her kong was full of string cheese... and departed.

When we got home, we were greeted by a happy puppy who was ecstatic to see us - and a house that was just the way we left it. No shredded puppy pads, no piles of dog turds, no chewed computer components, no books, not a shoe out of place. All in all, if we can ever get her to stop biting, we may just have A Good Dog™.
