Aw Crap

I've been working on a semi-ambitious embroidery project. It's a design from Klaus Holitzka's Native American Mandalas coloring book called 'Rising Rain Deity'. I was originally thinking of giving it to Jody, but it's rapidly becoming the needlework equivalent of something you'd hang on a refrigerator.

This is the original from the coloring book:

I was attempting to do a button-hole type thingie with the small ring in the bottom circle. I was planning on making the button-hole an ochre yellow & stringing a bead in the center of the hole. It involved snipping the cloth into a cross & stitching the excess cloth underneath the button-hole stitch. You can probably see where this is going, huh?

Yeah, I made a nice, awkward, too-big cut across the top of the circle. I'm not sure if it's salvageable.

Could you potentially put a patch of coloured leather or fabric over it, and then put the symbol on the patch? That way you hide the hole, reinforce the area, and well... still get the symbol?

Also, that turtle is wicked!
