Artificial Sweetener

Rob's new diet has us adventuring in dangerous territory. Ugh. I'm not an artificial sweetener afficiando as it is... everyone keeps telling me, "Oh, you learn to love the taste!" Sorry, no, it's still leaving that metallic bitter weird-tongue-feeling aftertaste even after all these years. I tried stevia & that stuff was just bizarre. My coffee was not sweet when I drank it - it just tasted like coffee. Until I was done drinking it - that's when the bitter metallic aftertaste hit, with just a smidge of sweetness. We got sugar-free Jell-O & Jell-O pudding - both flavored w/aspartame (Equal or NutraSweet). The Jell-O? Not so great. It had that flavor. The pudding wasn't as bad. In fact, it was almost edible. I think the difference lies in the fact that pudding is made w/cold milk while the Jell-O has to be dissolved in hot water. Now, the Dannon Light & Fit Carb & Sugar Control strawberry yogurt is not all that bad. It's flavored with sucralose (Splenda). It's got a tanginess to it, it's not overly sweet, and only has a smidge of weird metallic aftertaste. And it didn't make my coffee taste funny after eating the yogurt.

I am still not wholly trusting of artificial sweeteners. I mean, sucralose was discovered in the process of making an pesticide & saccharin is a coal tar derivative.

I have been dreaming about those microwaveable cakes... and working at the DA's office. Which is bad, because it means I'm getting my hopes up. I also realized it's been 2 years since I've picked up any tarot cards.

Ah well, not much to say. School starts tomorrow.

Artificial sugar = cancer.

I'd rather take my chances with real sugar. Putting on weight and maybe having an increased risk of diabetes is far more appealing to me than putting carcinogens and behavioural changers into my blood stream.

Yuck yuck yuck.

Yeah, but my husband actually having diabetes... I feel so bad for him. Rob loves chocolate more than any man really should. And bread. His new diet has completely eliminated simple carbohydrates - no potatoes, no pasta, no bread, no cake, nothing made of flour or rice. We're trying alternative sweets so he can at least have something. Of course, I'm stuck being a flavor guinea pig because he feels bad if something goes to waste (like the pudding in the fridge that I will probably have to finish off or quietly dispose of). He's got IBS on top of it - and you know how cruel that particular ailment can be. Normally, fruits can kind of fill in that need-for-sweetness void, but the extra fiber means extra gastrointestinal misery for him.

As for the artificial sweeteners actually causing cancer... well, I originally went off on a 2-paragraph rant on my personal belief of what causes cancer & then deleted it when I realized how big my spiritual soapbox got :P

>I am still not wholly trusting of artificial sweeteners

FUCKING DONT TRUST AT ALL

that shit should not be allowed to be sold as food.

I cant believe ppl think eating that is better than natural sugar! Just have raw/brown sugar, least its natural and a food!!!
