So every month we get some sort of award for selling people upgrades and late check-outs. Last month I was awarded a comp night in a suite, which I traded in for a $50 meal comp. The last time I got a meal comp, my hubby & I dined at the luxurious "Steakhouse at Camelot", so this time I decided, well, let's try "Sir Galahad's Steakhouse", the slightly less expensive prime rib place in the castle. Ever heard the phrase "Don't shit where you work?" Well for me it's more like "Don't eat the shit where you work."
I'm really not big on wet food. I like my meats to be slightly moist, but I'd prefer them more well done. I usually get end cuts w/prime rib because they're closer to well than rare. So I ask for an end cut, get a middle cut that's just past rare... my plate had soggy mashed potatoes, creamed spinach, & the entire thing was then drenched in au jus. Ugh. In other words, the whole plate was, well, wet. The prime rib was soft and mushy and wet, the lobster, on the other hand, was tough and overcooked and as close to flavorless as lobster can get.
Rob ordered a chicken dish that touted "wild mushrooms". It too arrived drenched in a beef-broth gravy. Soggy mashed potatoes, over-steamed veggies, and one mushroom that had been cut into 4 pieces. I think the restaurant didn't even use a full chicken breast, I think it was some huge, mutant chicken nugget.
The salad was good, tho - the house dressing is very flavorful, the greens were fresh, and it had a plentiful amount of hearts of palm in it, which was a big hit with me.
I kept thinking to myself, at least ours was free. I feel sorry for the people who are actually paying for this slop. Generally speaking, you should be given some choice of at least your starch - baked, mashed or rice pilaf, perhaps?
Anyway, I wouldn't be too quick to suggest Sir Galahad's to anyone who asked me. Unless they just want to be treated to the decor, which is actually kind of nice.
