Centipedes & Prayer
Jul. 24th, 2005 11:10 amNight before last we found a 4" long centipede in Rob's bathroom. I was instantly pissed off. First scorpions, now centipedes! What next? What new exotic & potentially dangerous creature will we be finding in the house next? A leopard seal, perhaps? Or maybe a giant earthworm - like the ones they have in Australia? How about a fer de lance, or a green mamba?
So I looked up centipedes in google, and feel a little better, if not any happier... Centipedes are native to southern/central California, Arizona & of course, Nevada. So at least this wasn't some imported nightmare from Africa or South America like I originally thought it was, some other landscaping stowaway. And unlike scorpions, centipedes aren't poisonous, or are only mildly so, they eat mostly crickets & roaches... but they are aggressive, easily agitated, and can deliver a painful bite. This thing's head was maybe the size of a... well, I can't think of anything that matches, but it was tiny, so I can't see how it could have delivered much of a painful bite to someone as big as me or Rob. It was long, but very small.
I should be getting my textbooks next week, which is cool because I can get a head start w/some of the math & get a peek at what the accounting holds for me. Getting the history classes are going to prove to be most difficult, I fear. Not passing them, because I read fast, but actually getting enrolled before the classes fill up. Especially the online ones. I'll probably end up stuck taking physical classes, which will be a bore-fest.
I've been drawing a Medicine Card every night/morning, depending on what time I go to bed. I've got the Medicine Card Journal. It's sort of a guide for meditation & divination, but more like a diary. At least it's keeping me motivated to do something. Every time we've been getting so much as a sprinkle of rain I've been saying thanks. I genuinely am thankful - we need the rain so bad. We all need it, at least here. I can't say anything about Florida, eastern Texas, etc., but here in the southwest, we need it. But over the past few days it's been not much more than scattered thunder, lightning & humidity. Anyway, last night I drew Buffalo - Prayer & Abundance. Buffalo is a sign that prayers have been heard. There's more to it, but for now, just prayers have been heard. When I woke up this morning I was greeted by the sight of a soaking wet backyard. It isn't raining, but it did rain earlier.
Thank you, Great Spirit, for sending me a sign.
Thank you, Great Spirit, for sending us rain.
Buffalo also talks about being the answer to someone else's prayers, even if it brings great sadness and pain to one's life. It seems I will always be the deus ex machina in someone else's story.
