HBO's Autopsy
Aug. 25th, 2005 04:52 amA coworker taped an episode of HBO's 'Autopsy' for me. It was sort of an overview, featuring stories from their other shows, including one about Paul & Karla Homolka, which even though is fifteen years old, old enough for Karla to have been released from prison, doesn't seem that old.
Anyway, comparing it to Dr. Ken Namaguchi's video, the one done by Dr. Michael Baden was messier. It was also done sort of... well, it was made-for-tv, very brief. It was more about the stories in between the autopsy portions than the autopsy itself. The sounds - that bothers me. The bone saw, the fleshy ripping noise as the breastbone was torn from the ribs, the sort of sucking wet noise of the skull pulling away from the brain... gah. And the Homolka murder story featured footage of the one murdered girl they encased in cement. I remember seeing pictures of mute concrete slabs, looking like large cinder blocks... but in this video was the girl's face, like a sculpture or mask, with some of her hair coming out of the cement. It was so perfect and so horrible.
At the end of the video, they showed a row of corpses on gurneys, covered w/sheets. It looked carelessly or hurriedly done, though - arms and legs peeked out of the sheets like the limbs of restless sleepers.
