I'm involved in this tribe called 'The Pagan Village'. It's a great, heady tribe, full of all types of Pagans & a few atheists & a few folk from the more open-minded Western JudeoChristian complex. Anyway, someone posted a rant about how offended they were after seeing the remake of The Wicker Man with Nicholas Cage. They were deeply hurt that anyone should suggest that Pagans are anything except peace-loving vegetarians who follow the 'Wiccan Rede' (for the uninitiated, it's 'An it harm none, do what thou will') to the letter, every single one of us every single day.

Now, I know & you know that Wicca was pretty much invented by Gerald Gardner in the 50's & the so-called Wiccan Rede was co-opted and bastardized from Aleister Crowley, who most likely co-opted & bastardized it from someone else. We also have a lot of anthropological proof that the Celts sacrificed all kinds of people and animals. In fact, most European peoples were believers that no one was too good, or too bad, to be given up to the Gods. Most Mezo-American people felt that people should be given to the Gods in massive amounts. People were God-food. The best God-food were willing sacrifices, but a lot of Gods weren't too picky - kicking, screaming, pleading criminals would work just as well as sacred kings and those who were too satiated by fucking, wine and drugs to care what was happening to them - as long as it all felt good & had pretty colors.

My response to the whole rant was this:

I think we should bring the Sacred King back. Has Bush been in office for 7 years yet?
