Perspective
May. 26th, 2008 12:00 pmI know some very weird people. I have a decently high belief threshhold - maybe being Pagan does that to a person, or maybe it's the other way around - people with high belief threshholds are drawn to Paganism. I try not to be judgmental of other people's wacky beliefs - I may not believe them myself but I try to accept that some people just watch too much t.v. or believe everything they read. It really gets me when it's someone who I think is highly intelligent, practical and down-to-earth.
Sometimes, though, someone says something that makes me go :::facepalm:::. Read something today that gave me the automatic 'whack-job' kneejerk reaction.
Rob gave me the same reaction the other day when he said the CIA caused Ted Kennedy's brain tumor. Usually this is something I would jump on whole-heartedly, being a conspiracy-theorist, but... I think I would believe it more if the cause of Ted Kennedy's seizure was unknown and if he continued to have them - that would be a convenient way to draw attention away from the presidential election. However, TK having a brain tumor is not convoluted enough to keep people away from scrutinizing this year's election.
It's okay, though. I can back off and say, well, some people probably think I'm a whack-job because I am honestly and firmly do not believe that anyone has ever been on the moon, and I am willing to argue about it in public where people can hear me. The renewed interest in the moon has me worried because I think since no one can land on it, they're going to blow it up out of frustration. Being a woman who still has periods, this concerns me deeply. If I lived closer to the ocean or a major body of water that had tides, I'd be terrified, not just concerned.
