Just Sharing a Memory
Aug. 21st, 2008 09:16 pmI've been living in Vegas on & off since 1988. When I first came out here, I was living w/Jody in North Las Vegas in a housing project on D Street. It was not the greatest of neighborhoods, to say the least. Shortly after I moved in, Jody decided to leave her common-law husband, so she, I & her two daughters moved to a trailer park on North Las Vegas Blvd.
At the time, surprising to many, North Las Vegas was not that developed. We were close to the mountains, and Jody's grandmother lived in a neighborhood a little farther north where mountain lions & mountain goats would come & drink from people's pools. I rode the bus to school & we passed an actual farm/ranch at one point on the route. One morning, probably in October or November, it was quite foggy and as we came up on the little ranch, a group of animals appeared out of the mist.
At first, I thought it was a little bunch of small cows, but as the bus fully rounded the turn, they startled, their tails went up and their heads came up out of the long grass - and I saw they were pronghorn antelope. They bounded off into the fog.
