Writer's Block: Forbidden Reading

Maybe I came from bad parents, or maybe I was just lucky - I never had to do this. My parents were both literate and had me reading on my own before I entered kindergarten. My mother was a horror & sci-fi buff & my father liked westerns & biographies. They never limited me to the children's section in the library, and I basically grew up on Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Larry McMurtry & books about animals & dinosaurs. Whenever I didn't understand a word I had read, my parents handed me a dictionary.
The only drawback to complete freedom in reading was that my parents didn't emphasize a balance of activities. I became one of those geeky kids who preferred to stay inside & read rather than go out & make friends.
