There is no dog greater of heart or spirit than any other dog. Dogs are truly noble and have been with us since the dawn of our species. I love Aussie Heeler/Shepherd mixes - they are the best dogs on the planet. I am awed by sighthounds of all types, especially the antique breeds like Pharoah hounds, Ibizan hounds, Basenjis who can cry but cannot bark, Sloughis, Salukis... Salukis are the only dogs the Bedouins view as being 'clean'. Honestly, I like most smooth & silky-haired hounds. Weimeraners, Viszla, pot-bellied blue-tick 'coon hounds who bay with that great ringing song, harlequin Great Danes, clicky-toe-nailed Beagles, floppy Labs. I like dog dogs, dogs you can thump in the ribs and push around with your shoulder, dogs who lay their big heavy heads on your chest and look up at you with wide expectant eyes, cunning dogs who bring their leashes to you, stupid dogs who eat linoleum and tennis shoes, cowardly dogs who hide under the couch when it thunders but who bring you some guy's pants because he cut across the wrong yard, moondogs & lunatics who chase cops out of their own cars. All the dogs I've known I love & I love all the dogs I've known. They've tied their lives to ours since the beginning, skulking around the midden piles and birthing huts, braving the fear of fire to bask in its warmth, helping us hunt, guiding us through the snow, helping us protect our homes and livestock and families... what is there not to love about any dog?

Of course, my vote for the Champion of Dogs would be the one laying warm against my hip a few minutes ago, Chelsie chasing her dreams with twitching paws...

A month: August, when the light’s direction changes noticeably and slants across the floor, when morning light is much like afternoon light, golden with dust motes. A time when the first promise of harvest is on the wind, along with the first warnings of winter. It is a liminal month…

A weekday: I’d love to be a long, lazy Sunday afternoon, but I know I’m more like Wednesday, stuck in the middle of the work-week and far longer than a mere 24 hours.

A time of day: 2am, when the bars close and there’s nothing left to do except go home alone.

A planet: Earth, heavy, solid and dependable, with a majority of life going on unseen and hidden

A furniture: An apothecary’s chest, lots of little drawers and compartments filled with dusty dried herbs that might be useful if you could identify them...

A fruit: A persimmon – you have to know when it’s ripe enough to be juicy, otherwise it’s hard, dry and bitter

A sin: - Sloth. I think it’s pretty self-evident as to why

A liquid: - Cornstarch & water paste. Shake it enough & you’ll find monsters.

A tree: - Hmmm… A mulberry tree – if you let it grow roots you cannot move it and it will prevent you from doing anything useful with your yard whatsoever.

A flower: - Foxglove for its shape and color, belying the usefulness and danger in its leaves

A type of weather: - A thunderstorm, beautiful when in a rage but safer to look at from a distance

An animal: - An sea otter, with a rock and a sea urchin to bash on it, sleek and playful and so at home in the water

A colour: - Wine red

An herb: - Rosemary – all meat tastes better with rosemary on it

A voice - A rich, husky woman’s voice with just a hint of babydoll in it, like Jennifer Tilly’s

A chemical element – Sodium chloride – salt. Purifying, drying, but much like rosemary, everything tastes better with a touch of salt, even chocolate

A car: - A 1965 Ford Mustang – sporty yet solid, edgy yet traditional, muscular but agile, and every guy secretly wants one (and so do a lot of women)

A food: - Crème bruleé –light, refined, sophisticated and so decadent

A drink made of alcohol: - Tequila sunrise

A place on earth: - Costa Rica, one of the last remaining rainforests, sustaining life and protecting it

A number: - 1. Yes, I’d like to be #1. It’s true. Mainly because 1 doesn’t need any other number’s support, but it supports other numbers, and you can always make a number greater by adding a 1 to it. Strike that... I want to be # 8. It's got great curves!

A date: - February 11, 1990 – a great wrong was righted on this day and the world is a better place for it.

Shoes: - Broken-in, mismatched Converse sneakers, funky, free-spirited and functional - and boy are they comfy!

A saying: - Blessed are the cracked, for they shall let in the light

A song: - Ramble On – Led Zeppelin.

A movie: - Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards

A character from a book: - Max from Where the Wild Things Are

A mythological creature: - A selkie or selchie or silkie. I might actually be one, but I can't find my seal skin. I think Coyote stole it.

A character from a comic/manga: - Neil Gaiman’s Death from the Sandman series… She put the fun back in funerals.

Ok, so I actually have something that made me happy. I was able to successfully use System Restore to get rid of the stupid mp3codec virus. I found something out about Sys Restore - it works way better if you can boot in safe mode. I am also pretty freaking happy that I was able to figure out HOW to boot in safe mode in the first place!

Another thing that makes me happy is that I scored an 84.5 on my Security+ final exam. I really fucked off with that class & when I found out the final was going to be adaptive & not based on the other chapter quizzes, I figured I was going to fail (especially since the only things that counted towards the class grade were the midterm & the final). But, I actually managed to find the answers I didn't know and I passed!

And yes, this semester has finally ended!!!! My computer works & so it's WoW for the next month or so!!!!
