Happy Lies
Jan. 26th, 2009 06:16 pmI'm reading Stephen King's Just After Sunset. I like his short stories a lot, & so far this book hasn't disappointed. It's even got a Cthulhu mythos story in it, which makes me immensely happy - good to know that writers are still carrying Lovecraft's eery blue-flamed torch.
I've been thinking about Cthulhu, the mythos, the Necronomicon, & I've come to a realisation. The Necronomicon is basically like the Santa Claus, Tooth Fairy or Easter Bunny of the occult world. It was so disappointing to find out it wasn't real. I think I was more disappointed to find out The Necronomicon wasn't real than I was to find out Santa Claus wasn't real (I was kind of relieved, as a child, to learn that the Easter Bunny wasn't real, mainly because of Night of the Giant Lepus).
Of course, I can't tell Cthulhu that He's not real - just because He's only 6" tall doesn't mean His feelings are equally miniscule.
