The Job

A few weeks ago when they laid people off, I told both Brad & Jeff that the night that I had to work out at the front desk & do night audit would be the night I turned in my resignation.

Last night was that night. One graveyard clerk called in sick, the other worked 1 hr. & went home sick. Which left Brad, the supervisor, Sheung Yi, a lead clerk, and me. And because I have this sick sense of loyalty to my fellow graveys, I bundled up my paperwork & went out to the front desk, complete w/a bank. I took in all of $9 in cash. When the morning shift came in they were looking at me like I was an alien.

I've been thinking that yes, the money is nice. I'm making more now than I ever have. I do have insurance, but w/a $250-per-person deductible, it's not as valuable as it once was. I've also been vested since July, which I tend to forget. I'm seriously beginning to weigh the pros & cons of my future, and I'm feeling very old & used-up. I hurt all the time. Within 3 hrs. of being on the desk my knees were (and still are) absolutely screaming, enflamed & hot to the touch. I took two tramadol before I even went out there & the pain is still incredible. My back is spasming. I have grown very cynical and weary.

I think it's time for me to find another job. And maybe, just maybe, once I'm settled in I can go have that drink w/Jeff.
