I Survived

I made it, alive & well, through my knee surgery. I sat around in the hospital from 11:30am til about 3:30pm before they even pulled me back into the operating room. Sitting there, in an ill-fitting hospital gown w/my ass in the breeze for four hours. I knew that was going to be the case, too. Part of the problem was that no one told me during my pre-registration appointment that I would have to take a freakin' pregnancy test & I couldn't have the surgery til they got the results. I didn't drink anything from like, midnight last night & when I got up I took care of my morning toilette... they had to give me half a bag of fluids so I could eventually pee.

The doctor had gotten me all excited saying that if the defect could be approached from a different angle, I might be able to put weight on it. The defect was smaller than originally anticipated... so he did the microfracture surgery instead of the bone transplant because supposedly it'll heal faster - only now I'm back to not being able to put weight on it at all whatsoever. With my little bit of trying to maneuver on the crutches, I've come to the conclusion that I've completely forgotten how to use them. I can't remember how to go up or down a single step. I remember the theory but my body refused to cooperate - we've got a fairly high step going from the garage to the house & I ended up having to turn around & sit down & scooch my way into the house.

Aside from feeling like I've had a coupla Benadryl & wanting to go back to sleep, coming out of the anaesthesia was fantastic. No nausea, no sore throat. I was just thirsty & starving to death. Had me a chicken pot pie from KFC. Rob's busy re-arranging the living room so it won't be so much of a collision course. I finished cleaning the kitchen last night & the snakes are fed, so the house is in good shape for the next month or so.

Thank you for the positive thinking :) I called my relief auditor tonight & the minute he answered the phone he said, "Damn! You lived!" It's nice to know someone, somewhere is so supportive & caring, lol.

I hope all is well in your world again & your dark night of the soul is seeing a brighter morning.

Hopefully, if I'm good & follow orders and don't do anything stupid, I will at least stop falling down so often. The kneecap kept popping out of place & that should stop. I also had some detached cartilage which the doctor re-attached, so some of the popping, clicking & grinding will stop. I may still end up with pain & stiffness, but I won't be looking at a total knee replacement or crippling arthritis in 5 years. If this goes well, I might let them do the same type of procedure on my left kneecap. I've just got to wait & see. ***fingers crossed***

Love ya!
