It's hard enough that he's been home for a little over a year, but we've only got one computer. These past 3 days we've been off our normal schedules because of my wisdom tooth, and I really don't have anything else to do at this point in time except typing up my herbal notes on the computer. I need a different hobby, but up until these past couple of days I haven't really needed one, the ones I have worked just fine. He'd be messing w/the computer when I was at work or asleep & I could mess with it a little before I'd go to work or when he was watching TV. Previous to these past couple of days, the couch lump I call a spouse was perfectly content to watch TV all day long, no matter what was on it.
Anyway, I had a weird dream last night. I was a soldier who had already finished my tour of duty in the first year of Vietnam, but towards the end the Army asked me to do a favor for a colonel. I was very good at finding missing people and the colonel's (who looked like an older version of Nicholas Cage, btw) son was captured & presumed dead. So I agreed to go as a favor, but for some reason I had to go undercover as a private. I had a babyface & it was a unit that I'd never had any contact w/before & only the colonel would know that I was undercover. So I'm talking to the colonel & he's telling me that he just wants his son's body to get home because he knows his son is dead & he gives me a bunch of papers w/a map on it to what's supposed to be a p.o.w. camp, but as I'm walking away a sargeant stops me, wants to know where I'm going & busts me for trying to go AWOL & somehow I end up on the front line. I kept referring to myself as "Digger" but I think my real name was Daniel, I was young, I had a blonde crewcut, and I was supposed to be on funeral or "Bodybag" duty. Then I had another dream where I was telling a friend about the dream, because it didn't seem like a real dream, it seemed like a memory. I could hear all the jungle noises, choppers, feel the oppressive heat & humidity, the sky over the Army base & the jungle had that dark grey iron color, the path I was walking down was dry, packed, red clay, I could smell impending rain in the air & could see how the lushness of the jungle was trying to overtake the army base. I could even smell the sweat coming off myself, the colonel & the sargeant who stopped me from going off into the jungle. Weird, weird dream, weird that I remembered it. Colors mostly - Army green, jungle green, the color of the corrugated aluminum all the buildings were made of, the jeeps, the deeper inticement of the jungle palms & vines, the wet scent of the red clay road. And the panicky feeling when the sargeant stopped me, not because I thought my cover was blown but because I was afraid the colonel would get himself in trouble if he tried to stop the sargeant.
