Music Meme
Nov. 4th, 2007 03:39 pmIt's sad, but yes, I do have a playlist. Unfortunately, I don't have 10 peeps on my friends list.
"Put your playlist on random. Post the first ten songs that come up, alongside a brief note on why they're on your playlist and/or why you like them. Then tag ten people to do the same and learn more about them through song!"
Satellite - Dave Matthews Band
Crazy - Seal
Afterglow - INXS
Desert Rose - Sting w/Cheb Mami
Santa Monica - Everclear
Homeless - Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Concentrate - Xzibit
You Know I'm No Good - Amy Winehouse
Bittersweet Symphony - The Verve Pipes
None of my tunage is very original, or speaks much of my deeper personality - at least not the ten songs that showed up at the top of my shuffled list. I listen to it when I'm drunk & up alone, after Rob's gone to bed. I feel so old right now, and very tired and pathetic. I had to download Concentrate because I didn't want Justin Timberlake's SexyBack to be the song I got busted for sharing, lol. It's a cool tune, though, because of the chanting monk in the background. It seems funny but the DMB songs I like most seem to involve voyeurism - Satellite & Crash especially. That sense that I am forever outside life, watching those who partake in it, never being invited in, never wanting to be invited. I love Amy Winehouse's voice. She's a barrel-house queen, that one & I cannot wait til I can blow the $20 on her CD. She's absolutely fantastic. I also love the voice of the new INXS lead singer - and he's very sexy looking, too. Afterglow is just a beautiful song, even with its obnoxiously slick production. Seal's Crazy gives me chills every time I hear it & I want to punch Alanis Morissette in the head for covering it. I also like Cheb Mani on Desert Rose. When I hear the song, I think about the Arabian horse I see sometimes when I close my eyes. I don't really like Everclear much - that guy needs a therapist & needs to stop shoving his traumatic experiences dealing w/his parents' divorce down his listeners throats, but I do like Santa Monica. It makes me think about all those places I'd rather be.
Landslide & Bittersweet Symphony are mostly connected to my sense of getting older. Landslide hurts most when I think of how I've just invested my entirety in Rob. Tied myself so completely to this other person who, well, is Rob. And I'm too broke & too comfortable & too secure to separate myself.
From Landslide: Oh, mirror in the sky
What is love
Can the child within my heart rise above
Can I sail thru the changing ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life
Well, I've been afraid of changing
cause I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder
Children get older
Im getting older too
Bittersweet Symphony, the whole freakin' song. I am sooo pathetic.
