Well, Age of Conan fell flat. Yes, you can have topless female characters. Yes, the graphics are gorgeous. But getting in on the ground floor of a brand new game from a freshman game producer just kind of sucks. You can't explore the environment, you're stuck on these little paths that direct you to & fro... and that's when the servers are up and you can actually play. Out of a week, I think Rob managed to play a total of 16 hours spread out over a number of days.

So he decided to try out Guild Wars. He figured that if the game was a bomb, at least there was no monthly fee for it. It also has beautiful graphics, and while still limited compared to WoW, much more freedom to explore the environment than AoC. All the male characters look like emo-kids or metrosexuals, but Rob's found a build he can live with. He's a level 7. We've been struggling to figure out how to get him out of the starting area & into the rest of the world. He's been stuck in someplace called Ascalon City - but the maps of Ascalon City I've been finding show far more NPC's than the ones in the city. So I finally typed "I'm in Ascalon City, where the hell are all the merchants?" into the search engine & came up w/a couple of hits on my exact question. the reply to my question is "You are still in the tutorial."

If what Rob's been doing the past couple of days are the tutorial, holy crap, what does the rest of the game look like?!

Ahh Guild Wars...our passion :D Once he takes the last primary quest, they will tell him that once he leaves that is it..THEN the real story starts...

We have been playing for a few months now and its ALOT more expansive than you think..We like it because the skills are easy to control.

Oh! VERY important! Eye of the North expansion is the last incarnation of Guild Wars meant for seasoned players. We started with Eye of the North and wondered why it was so hard to get good skills and level up..Duh..we were supposed to have gone through the other games first to get all those skills first. We just got Factions which starts you off in a asian type monastery instead of the pre-searing Ascalon City in Prophecies which has the Assassin and Ritualist classes..Nightfall is the third expansion with the Paragon and Dervish classes. Once you add any game to your computer, you get access to all the game lands you have bought. We just found this out so we can take our Factions chars on a ship and pick up skills in the Prophecies set by going to Lion's Arch and back again.

We'd be happy to show him about and such if we know his character's name. So when we are playing we can find him. :D

That's too funny - all this time spent readin' your blog & I had no clue!

We got a combo pack w/the original GW & EotN on it, lol. We looked at it & one of the others & determined that he'd probably enjoy playing in northern-looking forests more than desert - and then when we got it home, he found out assassins weren't avail in the expansion we had bought. Maybe I'll p/up a copy for myself, take a break from WoW. (In gaming as in life, Rob is highly antisocial, so he'd probably be difficult to try to play with - he said he did make a 'Gabriel Van Helsing' - it's a ranger/necromancer. A necroranger? He says he's specced in blood magic, so he's a vampire.)
