What's funny is I look at this list and see how many I'm missing.
Don't let my library mislead you - not everyone who is interested in shamanism is a druggie, lol. I just have this peculiar interest in poisonous plants, and so many of them have psychoactive properties. It's not my fault, really. Blame it on Coyote ;)

Do you have any favourites out of those?
My Desert Island Herbals
Date: 2009-07-29 05:31 am (UTC)Not because they are chock-full of good information (even though they are) but because they are my two first 'real' herb guides, Eastern/Central Medicinal Plants (Peterson Field Guides) & John Lust's The Herb Book. I've worn out so many copies of both.
I absolutely love Michael Moore's guides. He was (he passed away in February) an excellent, and funny, author; his books are very concise as far as identification, and he hated caltrops (Tribulus terrestris) as much as I do.
Dale Pendell is another favorite all-time love of mine, and of course, the Grand Old Man of Ethnobotany, Richard Evans Schultes himself. Moore, Pendell and Schultes make me want to go out & roll around in the green stuff & you know how much I don't want Nature on me, lol.
The Encyclopedia of Psychoactive Plants & Plants of the Gods were both major scores for me, especially the Encyclopedia - it is the most expensive book I've ever bought and it's worth every penny.
I recommend Penelope Ody's book to everyone - the layout and photography in it are excellent, she's got good descriptions, her research is pretty thorough and it's a great beginner book because it's lively and still has the right precautions.
