I always ask people rude things, or I ask normal things in a rude way. Basically, I'm rude. A choice memory comes from my childhood... My mother & I were in a laundromat and a man was also washing his clothes there. He had a large 'wine-stain' birthmark covering half his face. Of course, I was 4 & walked over to him and asked him "what's on your face?" I don't remember much after that because my mother's punishment was swift and brutal and I never asked anyone anything that blatantly personal until I was a teenager.
Aside from asking me the perfunctory "when's it due?", "is it a boy or a girl?", "how far along are you?", etc. & so forth, because I'm fat, (I actually look forward to people asking me this because I've developed an arsenal of snappy and disgusting comebacks that I love to use), the single-most rude question I have ever been asked is "Are you retarded?"
I've threatened people's lives over that one. Working in the service industry meant I've been asked it more than once. I know it's not personal - whoever had the misfortune of helping that person, or attempting to help that person, would probably hear it. But the fact that I was expected to be civil to someone who would just ask anyone "Are you fucking retarded?" makes me angry. I may be rude, but I am usually just short, direct, bad-tempered or blunt... but even I, with my propensity for making creative threats and spewing profanity like a volcano full of sailors, would never, ever even think of asking someone, "Are you retarded?".
