Hellboy Movie Review

Oh yeah, we rented the much-anticipated 'Hellboy' last night. I'm glad we didn't blow money on it in the theatre. It was ok, don't get me wrong, but it struck me as being more of a pilot for a Fox series or something, instead of as a self-contained movie. There was very little character or plot development, no inner conflict, no real outer conflict, & not any decent comedy relief, either... it held little or no surprises to make ya jump out of your seat, which is a big plus for me. I like movies that make you want to climb over three rows of people behind you to get the hell away from whatever's on the screen in front of you. The monsters HB was fighting were visually impressive, especially when my favorite Elder God put in a brief appearance at the end (& as I sat & looked at all those unfurling tentacles waving about in space, I thought to myself, "Yeah, I think that's exactly what He looks like") but not very interesting otherwise. It reminded me a lot of 'League of Extraordinary Gentlemen'. So overall, 'Hellboy' receives a 2-meh rating. Meh. Meh.
'Hidalgo' comes out on the 3rd, & I dunno when Harry Potter will be on video... The next big movie jones is 'Alien vs. Predator' :)
