Jul. 24th, 2003 11:31 amI've got a dentist appt. today. Eeew. I have a thing against dentists. This one's an oral surgeon, tho. Maybe they'll just knock me out instead of jabbing the world's biggest hypo into the roof of my mouth. O well. And I go to work tonight, but that's not such a bleak proposition anymore. I'm actually looking forward to it now. If I can make it 3 years I'll be vested w/the Union. Pretty sweet. They always talk about striking & such, but so far it hasn't happened.
I'm reading "Behind the Crystal Ball" right now. It's not exactly about why science is better than magic, or vice versa, but mostly about the theory behind magic, and why it's persisted for so long, why it's been around longer than magic. It's pretty dry stuff, but I'm interested in it, and that makes all the difference. I also picked up Clive Barker's "Imajica" again. The book absolutely overwhelms me. I've probably read it 6 or 7 times. It's one of those books that took me forever to actually read - I started trying when it first came out, but I think I was too young to get past the beginning, and now I fall right into it from page 1. Barker seems like he'd be a stone trip to talk to - very heady stuff. I really enjoyed "Galilee" too - beautiful story. Sometimes people write things that just elevate you to a new plane. Weirdly enough, Stephen King's "Insomnia" was like that for me, too. Old symbols given new life. Braingasms galore.
Hey, if anyone's interested, I sell books & crap on Half.com, my seller ID is Kiyotesong. It's sort of like a huge online flea market. Even tho Half is a subsidiary of Ebay, I like Half better because you're not competing w/a bunch of other people for a high bid, everything has a set price & you always know how much you're paying.
