My rather eclectic taste in music is part of what convinced me that reincarnation is reality. Why else would a lower-middle-class white chick know anything about the blues? I liked the blues before Ralph Macchio was in Crossroads, and before I ended up in Memphis - that was just where I got educated.

I like the starkness of the Delta blues better - just a voice & a little guitar, but damn, Muddy Waters & Howlin' Wolf are so... damned... good. Hair-raising. It's funny, though, to hear songs like Bring It On Home done by Sonny Boy Williamson & prop it up against Led Zeppelin. Robert Plant did a decent imitation of Williamson's warbling intro - beyond that, even though I have always and will always love the Golden God - Plant's voice is no match for Williamson. It's not even fair to put Plant up against Howlin' Wolf. Killing Floor was his loooong before Led Zeppelin was born.

I got the Chess Box Set, 1947 - 1967 today. It was kind of like leaping into the void for me as far as not knowing what was on the CD's - if it was going to be outtakes or B-sides or frequently covered modern crap. There's a couple of tunes by John Lee Hooker, & a lot of Waters & Wolf (they were Chess' big sellers of the day), but it's also cool to hear Memphis Minnie & sweet, sweet Etta James.

I'm on vacation now, so I'll have time to explore the music a little. Finished staining Ed's tank trim. Rob was trying to widen the bolt-holes on the security gate in my room & managed to put the drill through my window. So much for a stress-free break from work. If it's not work, it's the in-laws. I cannot win. The Universe obviously wants me to go bat-shit crazy. Ah well. I called in sick for two nights, so my vacation hasn't officially started yet. Tomorrow, which would be day 1, is going to be spent dealing w/the in-laws trying to get my window fixed.

I got some stuff cleared off my desk - more coloring books to scan into the hard-drive. They've been sitting on my desk since late August. Feels good to get rid of them. I also closed my myspace account. I keep saying, "I don't have time for this or that" so I'm going to gradually start eliminating all the things that eat up my time. myspace was a big one. So was okcupid - that account is also closed. WoW is sacred space - don't even go there!

1. What is (or would be) your dream vacation?

An all-expenses-paid trip to the Atlantis resort in the British Virgin Islands, in which I would apply for a job, be interviewed, be hired, apply for my work visa, have it accepted, and live rent-free on a beach for the rest of my natural life.

2. What's one thing no vacation can do without?

Well, currently I can't go on vacation without receiving at least one phone call from work.

3. What has been the best trip of your life so far?

Heh, life is just one long trip. A bad one, in my case, but a trip nonetheless.

4. Who was with you on that trip and what is the role of that person in your life?

It's all about me, baby.

5. What's the worst thing that can happen during a vacation?

Starting my period, complete with horrendous back spasms.

Finished the 'Dark Tower' series, King's magnum opus... He took the lazy man's way out, and I suspected the ending would be like it was probably about halfway through the book. It sucks, but I imagine King's probably pretty fucking tired of all those people wandering around in his head. He's been working on those books for longer than I've been alive, even if he has been doing other stuff in between, it's dominated his career. I am mightily pissed about Oy.

I'll be curious to see if King actually retires, or if he keeps writing. We all know what happens to artists who 'retire'... Hel, anyone who 'retires' after putting their heart & soul into what they do best.

I have to go back to work tonight. It's ok. I'm so stressed out when I'm not at work & other people are doing my job. Can't relax. Might as well not even take the time off & just take the extra vacation pay.

Yanno, I'm on vacation. My arms hurt. My feet hurt. I woke up at 7pm and I'm already pretty much ready for bed. Am I fucking pathetic or what? So instead of starting my vacation off w/a bang, we went grocery shopping & I've sat around watching AdultSwim & 'Voodoo Secrets' on the History Channel... I gotta say, what they said were Voodoo Secrets were actually just about everything the average person even mildly interested in Voodoo already knows. It did skeeve Rob out, tho, because w/in the first 10 minutes, they showed actual sacrifices of a white bull, 3 goats and a chicken. Bulls go quietly - they know what's coming. Goats bawl a lot. Remind me never to go to a doctor in West Africa... they make you fill your own prescriptions.

So my goal for my vacation, once I get the proper RCA/RF cables, is to figure out how to hook up my stereo, the VCR & the DVD player to my computer. I also have to get a filling tomorrow. Blegh. I wonder how much Valium is safe to take?

INTJ -The Mastermind
You scored 9% I to E, 47% N to S, 90% F to T, and 31% J to P!
You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you prefer to have a plan rather than leaving things to chance. Your type is best described by the word "mastermind", which belongs to the larger group called rationals. Only 1% of the population shares your type. You are very strong willed and self-confident. You can hardly rest until you have things settled. You will only adopt ideas and rules if they make sense. You are a great brainstormer and often come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. You are open to new concepts, and often actively seek them out.
As a romantic partner, you can be both fascinating yet demanding. You are not apt to express your emotions, leaving your partner wondering where they are with you. You strongly dislike repeating yourself or listening to the disorganized process of sorting through emotional conflicts. You see your own commitments as self-evident and don't see why you need to repeat something already expressed. You have the most difficulty in admitting your vulnerabilities. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires the quality of your innovations and when they listen respectfully to your ideas and advice. You need plenty of quiet to explore your interests to the depth that gives you satisfaction.

I have a spreadsheet for all our bills. I am the one who programmed it... I am the only one who ever looks at it... I'm the only one who ever changes anything in it, adds to it or deletes from it... saves it, etc... But after opening it just now, my mind went, "Hey, where was the password prompt?" And then I see the little triangular mark in the cell corners indicating an unlocked formula... and I had this panicky feeling of "Hey! Who's been mucking about in my spreadsheet?!" And after realizing, 'hey, nothing, we're home now, ya dork', I got this weird compulsion to lock the cells & password protect the sheet. Obviously my mind is preparing itself for 4 weeks of training Kelly. Hopefully, this will culminate in my being able to take a vacation in a minor self-assured fashion.

Finally...
